The Postdoc will belong to the divisions of Agroecology and Functional Agrobiodiversity and should start in autum/winter 2019 (ideally 01.10.2019). The regular working hours will be 39,8 hours per week with a limited contract until 31.03.2022. Salary will be paid according to the German grade 13 TV-L.
The experimental research will focus on biodiversity and related ecosystem services in agricultural systems and on the relative importance of local vs. regional determinants of biodiversity and multitrophic interactions including pollination and biological control, which is still little explored. A major focus will be on the agroecology of tropical and temperate land use systems, including effects of land use change and urbanization on ecosystem functions and agricultural productivity. We aim to develop novel farming practices that sustain and promote productivity, agrobiodiversity and its multiple functions within tropical and temperate agricultural landscapes and to gain a better understanding of biodiversity-ecosystem functioning relationships.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with excellent communication skills to join our research team. Applicants must hold a PhD in ecology, biology, agriculture or related disciplines. You should have excellent knowledge of ecological statistics with R (e.g. functional trait analyses, mixed models, structural equation modelling). Interested candidates should have research experience in agroecology, functional biodiversity research, applied ecology and/or landscape ecology. Fluency in written and spoken German and English, interest in teaching and a good publication record are required.
• research in the field of agroecology, biodiversity, ecosystem functions and services mainly in tropical agricultural systems
• initiation of new research projects
• teaching lectures and practical courses on topics such as biodiversity in agricultural systems, ecosystem functions and services, sustainable land use and community ecology in German and English (corresponding to § 31 NHG for four hours per week during the teaching periods)
• collaboration with existing collaborative projects that are mainly located in tropical regions
• supervision of bachelor, master and doctoral students
