Workshop 1: Methods to Measure, Analyze, and Understand Poverty around the World

content:
The workshop has two main objectives. First, participants will learn generally applicable quantitative methodologies explained in the context of poverty measurement and analysis. Second, participants will obtain a better understanding of poverty and its trends around the world. The workshop will introduce concepts of poverty and explain a variety of methods how to measure and analyze poverty followed by hands-on exercises to apply the newly learnt methodologies. The workshop will offer new insights for students from all backgrounds. Less quantitatively versed students will be able to solve exercises using Excel, while methodologically more advanced students will learn new commands and concepts in Stata/R.

Active participation; one 3-minute summary of the previous day and one 5-minute presentation about poverty in a country of choice (to be prepared before the week).
