Manuel Trenz joins University of Goettingen as Professor for Interorganizational Information Systems

Prof. Dr. Manuel Trenz is the new Chair of Interorganizational Information Systems at the Faculty of Business and Economics since June 1, 2019. His research addresses the targeted use of information systems and digital innovations and their influence on organizations and individuals. In particular, he focuses on digital services and platforms, management of digital transformation and cooperation, as well as the interfaces between the physical and digital worlds. He also addresses challenges posed by developments such as the Sharing Economy, infinite data availability and privacy, as well as increasingly blurred boundaries between digital private and working life. In 2018, Trenz was awarded the Viermetz Science Prize for his work.

At the Faculty of Business and Economics, he will offer courses on digital commerce, the design of digital business relationships through inter-organizational information systems, and the mechanisms of digital markets and platforms in Bachelor's and Master's programs.


About

Trenz received his habilitation from the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Augsburg in 2019. Previously, he received his PhD in the Information Systems Program of the Graduate School of Economic & Social Sciences at the University of Mannheim on the topic "Multichannel commerce: A consumer perspective on the integration of physical and electronic channels". During his PhD, he first worked as a DFG scholarship holder and later as a research assistant at the University of Mannheim and the University of Augsburg. Manuel Trenz studied Business Informatics at the University of Mannheim and gained practical experience at SAP and Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.

He appreciates collaborations in international teams and deepens them, for example, during stays abroad at Trinity College in Dublin, at SAP in New York and during research stays at the Copenhagen Business School and at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California. Together with international partners, he initiated the Workshop on the Digitization of the Individual (DOTI) in 2016, which has since taken place in Dublin, Seoul and San Francisco. He is also a research associate in the Digital Economy research group at the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW). He is guest editor of international journals such as Information Systems Journal and Electronic Markets and positions his research topics as track chair at conferences. In addition to research, he enjoys working with students and teaching in the areas of digitization, business informatics, marketing and research methods.
