Highlights from ICIS 2022: Our activities and the Best Kauffman Student Paper Award

As the year 2022 comes to a close, our team had the opportunity to attend the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in Copenhagen, Denmark. The ICIS is the largest conference in the field of Information Systems and brings together colleagues from all over the world to share their research and ideas.

One of our highlights of the conference was the presentation given by Laura Schulze, for which she was awarded the Best Kauffman Student Paper Award, acknowledging the great importance of her work. In her paper titled "Algorithmic Unfairness on Digital Labor Platforms: How Algorithmic Management Practices Disadvantage Workers," Laura focused on the ways in which algorithms can unfairly disadvantage workers on digital platforms. Parts of this research project were also discussed at the CNOW Workshop on the Future of Work.

In the Health Information Technology Symposium (HITS), Maximilian Grüning presented his research on AI-induced technostress of healthcare information technology. The work of Max focuses on how different facets of Artificial Intelligence (AI) can mitigate the effects of technostress in healthcare.

Richard Henkenjohann also presented his work on risk compensation behaviors in the Workshop on Information Security and Privacy (WISP). His work addresses unintended consequences of organizational security measures, that is, when employees engage in more risky online behaviors when they feel protected.

In conjunction with the conference, Prof. Manuel Trenz was involved in hosting the Workshop on the Digitization of the Individual (DOTi). The workshop had the theme "The digitized individual - from quantified-self to metaverse” and examined how new technologies can be used in contexts such as commerce and platforms and their impact on individuals and society.

Overall, the ICIS in Copenhagen was a great event that allowed our team to engage with colleagues from around the world. We gained valuable insight into the latest developments in the field and were able to share our own work with the field. We look forward to attending next year’s ICIS!
