Forest Botanical Garden: Northern section not accessible in the evening and at night on a trial basis

No. 40 - 30.08.2022

The Forest Botanical Garden of the University of Göttingen is one of the largest and most species-rich collections of woody plants in the German-speaking world. It has over 2,000 species across an area of around 40 hectares and is a delight to many visitors. The bicycle and footpath of the old Ulrideshuser Straße leads through it to the Nikolausberg district. The entrances to this path and all other entrances to the entire garden above this road will be closed on a trial basis from 21:00 to 06:00 in the morning in September.

The reason for this is vandalism in the Forest Botanical Garden, which probably occurred during the evening and night hours. Examples of damage include destruction of the shelter, large burn marks on the meadows caused by wild fires and theft of plants. Therefore, the University and the City of Göttingen have now agreed to close the gates during the evening and night hours on a trial basis from 1 to 30 September 2022. Afterwards, the results will be evaluated and the next steps discussed.
