Details There is a huge amount of work on finite subgroups of GL_n(C), their representation theory, and their associated quotient singularities. This dates back to Klein’s icosahedron book from 1884, and these results have been generalised and pursued further by Brieskorn, DuVal, McKay, Riemenschneider, Schlessinger, Wolf, and many others. It is customary to believe that all these results break down in arithmetic situations and over fields of positive characteristic. However, almost everything works if `finite group’ is thoroughly replaced by `finite and linearly reductive group scheme’ and viewed from this perspective. In my talk, I will review a couple of these classical results and show how to successfully generalise them using finite and linearly reductive group schemes. This is joint work with Gebhard Martin, Yuya Matsumoto, and Matthew Satriano.
