Bioinformatics (Morgenstern)
The department of bioinformatics focuses on the development of new algorithms and software for the analysis of DNA and protein sequences. In particular we work in the fields
- multiple sequence alignment,
- gene prediction,
- metagenomics,
- classification of protein sequences,
- phylogeny
- identification of recombination and recombination sites in viral genomes
- and the identification of non-coding RNA in genomes
Members of the department participate in international genome projects, where the software developed in the group is deployed.
Besides the Analysis of sequence data, the metabolomic became another focus of the group by now.
