DAAD-Project: The Professional Relationship with Universities in Developing Countries (January 2014 - December 2017)

The network project is part of the new programme "The Professional Relationship with Universities in Developing Countries", within DAAD promotes international cooperation with selected universities abroad. The network is constructed between the HUE University of Agriculture and Forestry, Vietnam and the Institute of Geography (Department GIS & Remote Sensing), Georg-August University, Goettingen.
Thematically focused the network to the research area of land use change and its monitoring with new IT technologies (GIS and remote sensing). The now extended term "LULUCF" means "Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry". Under this acronym action in the field of forestry and land use are summarized in the Kyoto Protocol. Land use and land cover change is a global issue which can only be tackled internationally. Through a targeted land use and forest management, the climate can be relieved: afforestation helps taking carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, reducing the rate of deforestation reduces emissions in countries where much is being cleared. In soils two thirds of global carbon dioxide are bound. All this is taken into account in land use changes. There are also aspects of the future adaptation of land use systems to climate change in terms of food security.
The focus of the network project, a multi-functional landscape analysis with the help of GIS and Remote Sensing looks on the involvement of ecosystem services (ecosystem services) and sustainability aspects.
The network project is under the direction of Prof. Martin Kappas (Institute of Geography, Georg-August University of Goettingen).

Participants have access to the Google Group: Hue Goettingen DAAD Project where where all information is collected and organized.
