National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Rourkela
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, originally set up as the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela in 1961, was declared as an "Institute of National Importance" under Act of Indian Parliament on 15th August 2007. It is one of the leading technology institutes of India offering programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.
The major fields of study are: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Mining Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Psychology, Economics, Sociology, and English Language and Literature. The institute, at present, has approximately 3000 undergraduate, 800 postgraduate and 400 research students. The faculty strength is about 250.
