The Centre

The Research Centre "Poverty, Equity and Growth in Developing and Transition Countries: Statistical Methods and Empirical Analysis" was founded in the context of the German 'Initiative of Excellence'.
The Poverty Center combines a unique and recently established pool of development researchers (from the Faculties of Economic Sciences and Agriculture) with econometric and statistical researchers from the Economics and Mathematics Faculties.
It comprises three research groups, one focusing on measurement and determinants of poverty and inequality in a dynamic perspective, one focusing on market access and the transmission of prices, policies, and technologies to the (rural) poor and one focusing on methodological issues. The goal of the Poverty Center is to strengthen Göttingen’s international standing as a leading research location in this novel combination of methodologically sound and policy relevant empirical research on poverty and inequality in developing and transition countries.
