The overall goal of this study is to develop a dynamic model of forest cover change to support the identification of drivers and to support informed policy decisions regarding land use change and rural development using Jambi Province as a case study.
The specific technical objectives towards this overall goal are
(1) to develop a scientifically sound yet robust method for land cover classification under the demanding biophysical conditions of Jambi,
(2) to identify drivers of forest land conversion and quantify their impact,
(3) to identify and analyse the historical trend and the spatial pattern of landscape changes and
(4) to evaluate the suitability of integrating different remote sensing data sources, GIS and a dynamic model.
