Effizienzbewertung von Dienstleistungskonfigurationen in der Telemedizin
Efficiency evaluation of service configurations in telemedicine

Funder: Federal Ministry for Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung) under the sponsorship of the DLR.

Funding code: 01FL10040

Partner: Blutdruckinstitut Göttingen e.V., Medtronic GmbH, T-Systems International GmbH, Techniker Krankenkasse and Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsmedizin

Kick-off meeting: September 2010

Project duration: 10/2010 – 9/2013

Methods: Expert interviews, surveys, case studies, reference model

Initial Situation:

The healthcare system in Germany is facing major challenges since it is no longer sustainable in its current form. Demographic change and the continuous increase in costs are just two of many reasons that make the productivity of services essential. This is especially true for the growing number of telemedicine services.

Description and results:

The joint project "EDiMed - efficiency evaluation of service configurations in telemedicine" creates a tool through intense examination of telemedicine services. This tool evaluates those services in terms of productivity. This is intended to improve the medial care processes which are made possible by telemedicine. Particular emphasis will be put on the interplay of (partial) automation through IT enabled services and the integration of patients.

Another goal is to analyze the services from a process perspective to configure sub processes which bring new and innovative offers in the use of telemedicine typical potentials. In this context, also new business, operator, and service models are analyzed.
