Article19 of the Framework Act for Higher Education (HRG) entitles German universities to introduce Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. Bachelor’s degree programmes are undergraduate programmes and lead to a first level of professional qualification within a regular three- or four-year period of study. Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree is a mandatory prerequisite for enrolling in a Master’s degree programme. Master’s degree programmes lead to further professional qualification within a regular period of study of one to two years. Within the multi-level/cyclical system of higher education, either consecutive or non-consecutive Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes may be offered.
