Acquiring new knowledge about forest ecosystems and their economic and social utilisation is the speciality of university teaching and research. The adventure of research on forest ecosystems, plants, animals, the economy, people, society, and politics is a daily occurrence at the University of Göttingen.

Future-oriented forestry

Deadwood in the forestToday, sustainable production, ecology and conservation, water and soil protection and recreation are integral parts of modern forestry. In additions to its traditional uses, wood is a valuable renewable raw material which is becoming increasingly important in modern biotechnological processing.

These new and important dimensions of modern forestry can be found in the new degree programmes of the Faculty of Forestry Sciences and Forest Ecology at the University of Göttingen.
