Narrative and Law in the Patriarchal traditions: Hebrew Bible and Dead Sea Scrolls (2 to 4 May 2011)

The workshop is dedicated to the Patriarchal Narratives in the Old Testament and their respective reception within the Dead Sea Scrolls, or, more precisely, to the complex interrelation of narrative and law within the Patriarchal traditions. This issue will be approached from two different angles: from an innerbiblical perspective, the narrative and legal passages within the Patriarchal traditions of the Pentateuch will be examined with regard to their textual and literary development and, from a reception-historical perspective, with regard to their reception and interpretation within the Dead Sea Scrolls. Hence, OT and Qumran research are sought to enter into a fruitful dialogue. The workshop was initiated by Dr. Devorah Dimant (Emeritus Professor of Biblical Studies, University of Haifa; Fellow of the Lichtenberg-Kolleg 2010/11) and Dr. Reinhard G. Kratz (Professor of the Old Testament, University of Göttingen; Associate of the Lichtenberg-Kolleg 2010/11) and is affiliated with the DFG project „The interpretation of the Book of Genesis in the Dead Sea Scrolls“.
