Founded in 1737, the University of Göttingen is a research university of high international standing. Being one of the most renowned German universities in the world, today it is placed by the Times Higher Education ranking (THE) as the second best German University, the 16th best in Europe and the 67th best university in the world. Up until today, the University has been a mother to 45 Nobel Laureates, who have studied, lived and did research in Göttingen.
