P2-8: Understanding landscape moderation of biodiversity patterns

Finding and understanding important drivers that determine biodiversity patterns at different spatio-temporal scales would improve the general understanding of ecosystem dynamics. A better understanding of the impacts of different landscape characteristics on biodiversity may help to develop more effective conservation methods or measures that help to preserve ecosystem services.

The aim of this project is to better determine and understand the influence of different landscape characteristics on local and regional biodiversity patterns. The idea is to develop a spatially explicit multi-species simulation model with stochastic birth, death and dispersal processes. The empirical basis for the model is previously
collected data on different taxonomic groups of invertebrates in agricultural landscapes.
