Development and utilization of doubled haploids in Brassica napus (Ariana Valdés)

Microspore culture in Brassica napus is applied with the following aims:

  • Study of distorted molecular marker segregation phenomena in DH populations
  • Development of doubled haploid populations for genetic studies
  • Improvement of the regeneration frequency of microspore derived embryos (MDE)
  • Improvement of the speed and regeneration frequency of plants from MDE
  • Improvement of the diploidization of microspores during an early stage of in vitro development
  • Development of in vitro selection for various seed quality traits applying the ‘single cotyledon technique’ (analog to the ‘half seed technique’)
