Courant Research Centre "Text Structures"

Prof. Dr. Gerhard Lauer

Gerhard Lauer received training in literary history and theory. After ten years in Munich he was appointed to a chair of German Philology at the University of Göttingen in 2002, where he conducts research on the relationship between mental processes and the structure of literary texts. He tries to find out which laws and regularities determine the cultural evolution of literature and literary meaning. Recently, models and methods of both cognitive science and computer philology have gained influence on his work.

Professor Lauer is vice director of the Lichtenberg-Kolleg, a member of various initiatives in the field of Digital Humanities, and a member of the Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen.
