Young student city with tradition

„The City of Knowledge“: Since it’s founding in 1737, the University of Göttingen has played a significant role in shaping everyday life in Göttingen. Today, the University can be characterized by its focus on research-based teaching, diverse course offerings and a high-calibre of research. With the exception of engineering sciences, all disciplines are physically represented within the city of Göttingen. Boasting excellent scientists from around the world and many international students, the University continues its tradition as an academic centre with a global perspective. Amongst international rankings, the University of Göttingen is considered one of the best universities in Germany.

The city of Göttingen itself is a classic university town. More than 31,000 students live and study here. They give the city a young and energetic feel. Numerous street cafes, pubs, discos, and student parties in the foyer of the main lecture hall provides Göttingen with a vibrant nightlife. During the orientation week for freshmen, several faculty-wide parties are organized explicitly for students.

Göttingen also offers cinemas, sports and cultural associations as well as beautiful surroundings. For those that enjoy sports, the University sports centre offers more than 80 sports, and is one of the largest sports providers in southern Lower Saxony. Göttingen is also relatively inexpensive, offering students the benefit of a low cost of living.

Göttingen is a city with short distances, where everything can be easily reached by foot or bike. The Faculty of Economic Sciences is directly on the main campus in the middle of town, with the old city and train station less than five minutes away. If you decide to explore the surroundings of Göttingen, the city also lies as a major hub for high-speed ICE trains to Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt/Main and Munich.
