Around 120 participants from academia and science are expected in the University's Waldweg lecture halls, who will present their results from their research into biodiversity. The conference begins at 1pm (open to the public until 2.15pm).

The public inaugural address will be given in English by Christine von Weizsäcker. She is member of the advisory committee to the Federation of German Scientists, and has participated since 1994 in the international negotiations on the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the CBD Cartagena protocol on Biosafety. She is also on the board of directors for the Stiftung Warentest consumer organisation, and works with the scientific advisory board for "Consumer and Food Policies" of the German Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.
