Adaptation and success of operational processes through dynamic capabilities

In order to remain competitive in the long term, companies must regularly and purposefully adapt their operational processes to changing environmental requirements. The ability to make adjustments in a company's operational processes is referred to as dynamic capability. The aim of this research project is to clarify the effects and the development of dynamic capabilities in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). For this purpose, two research questions are to be answered:

    1. What is the impact of dynamic capabilities on the effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes in SMEs?

    2. How are dynamic capabilities structured in SMEs and what factors influence their construction?

This project is carried out in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Hendrik Wilhelm (University of Witten/Herdecke) and Prof. Dr. Mark Ebers (University of Cologne).
