Graduates of the Faculty are satisfied with their jobs and what they studied

Since the summer of 2015, the University conducts an online survey of its graduates. The Faculty of Economic Sciences participates in the survey, and results were compiled at the beginning of 2016. The survey was given to exam cohorts 2013 and 2014 with the objective of following the transition from university to work or an occupation, as well as to understand satisaction with respect to their chosen field of work and their studies in Göttingen.

The surveyed graduates of the Faculty (exam cohort 2013: 127 people, and exam cohort 2014: 134 people) stated that they were satisfied with their studies in Göttingen, as well as with their current professional situation. The average overall satisfaction was about 2.0. On average, graduates take about four months to find a job. The majority of graduates have a job related to what they studied, and describe their final degree level as "exactly right for the task" (74%). Two years after completing their studies, 75% of the survey respondents had a permanent employment contract. Students who graduated with a master's degree are most active in job searches, while bachelor's degree graduates largely pursue graduate studies.

First reunion of the Faculty of Economic Sciences

In October, together with Alumni Göttingen, the University alumni association, the Faculty invited former students to the first alumni-day for former Faculty of Economic Sciences' graduates at the Central Lecture Hall (ZHG) located on the Platz der Göttinger Sieben. In the past, the Faculty only held a "silver diploma party" for alumni who had graduated 25 years prior, in conjunction with the main alumni day of the University.

Around 160 participants from across Germany, as well as international guests came to Göttingen. After opening remarks by the Dean of Research, Prof. Dr. Kilian Bizer, as well as by Professor of Economics, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang König, Emeritus, alumni had the opportunity to meet again, and take a campus tour of their alma mater. Afterwards, the alumni took the floor: seven former students gave short presentations about their often indirect career paths, discussing the steps they took after graduating. The President of the University of Göttingen, Prof. Dr. Ulrike Beisiegel, reported the status of actual projects and research strategies of the University. The audience also gave a warm welcome to the business economist, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Bloech, Emeritus, who influenced several generations of economists, and who addressed the alumni with a speech.
