Udo Kreickemeier is the new Professor of International Economics

Since October 1, 2018, Prof. Dr. Udo Kreickemeier is the new Professor of International Economics in Göttingen. Prior to coming to Göttingen, he held the Chair of Economics, focusing on international economics at the TU Dresden.

Prof. Kreickemeier’s research focus is on the influence of foreign trade and offshoring on the labour market and the distributional effects of globalization. In particular, he is concerned with the so-called “new” distributional effects. These arise from the heterogeneity of the population of various actors (typically companies and workers) which allows a more differentiated view of the winners and losers of globalization, an area of research that has been previously neglected in the academic literature. At the Faculty of Business and Economics, amongst other courses, he will also offer courses on international trade at the bachelor’s and master’s levels.

After studying economics at the University of Cologne and at Trinity College Dublin, Udo Kreikemeier completed his postgraduate studies in international economic relations at the University of Konstanz. In 2002, he completed a doctoral (theoretical) dissertation at the University of Mainz on the relationship between trade policy reform and unemployment at the Chair of Prof. Dr. Karlhans Sauernheimer.

After completing his doctorate, Udo Kreickemeier worked in England, first as a lecturer, then as an associate professor at the University of Nottingham School of Economics. In October 2009, he became the Chair of International Economics at the University of Tübingen, and then in 2015, joined the TU Dresden as the Chair of International Economic Relations.

Udo Kreickemeier is a member of the International Economics Committee of the Verein für Socialpolitik, research fellow of the CESifo Network, and external research fellow of the Nottingham Centre for Research on Globalization and Economic Policy. He is an associate editor of the European Economic Review and the Review of World Economics. Prof. Kreickemeier is married and has two daughters.
