Personnel matters


In April, after 14 successful years, Prof. Gerhard Rübel handed over his position as Dean of Studies to Prof. Stefan Dierkes. The dean at the time, Prof. Lutz M. Kolbe, and the Vice-President of the University for Studies, Teaching and Equal Opportunities, Prof. Andrea D. Bührmann, paid tribute to him for his many years of commitment to the Faculty on the occasion of his 40th service anniversary in January.

Prof. Stephan Klasen, PhD, was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Spanish University "Jaume I" in Castellón near Valencia in April for his services to the further development of development economics. The laudation was held by Prof. Celestino Suárez-Burguet from the Institute of International Economics at Jaume I University.

In addition, Prof. Klasen has been confirmed by the United Nations Economic and Social Council as a member of the Committee for Development Policy. The development economist has been a member and the sole representative of Germany on the UN committee since 2013. His new three-year term of office began on 1 January 2019.
The Committee for Development Policy advises the Economic and Social Council on economic development issues in the least developed countries. It is also responsible for determining which countries belong to the group of "Least Developed Countries" and therefore receive various trade and development aid concessions.

Prof. Dr Fabian J. Froese and Prof. Inmaculada Martínez-Zarzoso, PhD, are board members of the Centre for Global Migration Studies (CeMig), which was newly founded in June. CeMig is an interdisciplinary association of migration researchers and early-career researchers from a wide range of disciplines - from agricultural economics to sociology of religion - at the Göttingen campus.

Prof. Michael Wolff is a member of the working group "Guidelines for Sustainable Management Board Remuneration", which developed best practice guidelines for management board remuneration this year. Other members are the chairmen of the supervisory boards of listed companies in Germany, as well as representatives of major institutional investors and corporate governance experts. In a policy paper, the working group recommends core elements for the design of sustainable executive board remuneration in listed companies, provides companies with orientation for aligning their remuneration systems with the expectations of investors and thus aims to contribute to a constructive dialogue between companies and investors.

Prof. Sebastian Vollmer has been elected to the board of the Graduate School of Social Sciences (GGG). There he represents the member programmes of the GGG. Prof. Matthias Schumann is the spokesman of the graduate school.
The executive board of the graduate school decides on the basic orientation of the institution, discusses measures to improve support for doctoral students in consultation with the faculties and decides on the selection of funding measures by the GGG.
