Masters Degree Programme Equine Sciences
Since the winter semester 2006/2007 the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the Georg-August-University has offered the Masters Degree Programme Equine Sciences. In so doing, it revived an old tradition dating back to the early years of the University.
In 1737, the founding year of the Georg-August University, a riding stable with connected hippodrome, (sadly, demolished in 1968) started to be used as the first university outbuilding, even predating the original library.
The Masters Degree Programme of Equine Sciences is unique in its form anywhere in Europe. This is, amongst other things, due to the co-operation between the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences with the
University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover and the
National Equestrian Federation e.V. (Warendorf) (FN). With the co-operation of these prominent institutions a union of the most important core competences has been achieved in a region in which the horse is of special social and economical importance both in a national and international context.
In the traditional university town of Göttingen, the aim is to train scientifically qualified junior staff in the fast developing labour market of the equine sector. These young professionals are able to refer to a strong reference base for specialist questions and suggestions for research of future based projects even after having left the university and entered their professional career.
