New Professor of Development Economics

Prof. Dr. Andreas Fuchs has been the new Professor of Development Economics in Göttingen since 1 September 2019. Before moving to Göttingen, he held the Chair of Environmental, Climate and Development Economics at the Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg. He investigates issues relevant to development policy from a political-economic perspective. His research focuses on international trade, investment and development policy with a special focus on China and other emerging economies (BRICS). In addition, the professorship deals with the political economy of natural disasters, conflicts, migration and international organizations.

Research conducted at the Faculty of Business and Economics focuses on research in "Governance and Compliance", "Global Change and Development" as well as "Marketing and Consumer Science". The concept of enlightened and conscientious innovation of economic actors (responsible innovation) forms the overall guiding principle of the three research areas. The academic researchers work on these topics using both diverse econometric and experimental research methods as well as formal analytical modeling approaches.
