Emmy Noether Junior Research Group
Emmy Noether The research group is funded by the Emmy Noether Programme of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) and started in November 2008. It is located in the Department of Palynology and Climate Dynamics. The group currently consists of a research group leader (Dr. Thomas Giesecke), a postdoc (Dr. Anne Birgitte Nielsen) and a PhD student (Dipl.-Geogr. Isabelle Matthias). The research is focusing on developing and applying new techniques to quantitatively reconstruct past land cover from pollen data. Together with improved maps of past tree distribution the results will help to gain a better understanding of long term vegetation dynamics as a basis for testing and improving vegetation models.
