Research interests

My general research interest is soil biogeochemistry, including N cycling, greenhouse gas processes and the contribution of tree-stem emissions to ecosystem-scale greenhouse gas fluxes. In previous research, I worked on N cycling and greenhouse gases in canopy soils of tropical montane forests in the Andes of southern Ecuador and boreal forest soils in central Canada. I am currently working on quantifying tree-stem emissions of greenhouse gases from converted lowland forests to rubber and oil palm plantations in lowland Acrisol soil landscapes in Sumatra, Indonesia. I am also working on soil greenhouse gas fluxes along orthogonal rainfall and soil-fertility gradients of lowland forests in Panama.
