VeranstaltungenGöttingen Campus Research Visits - Institute of Astrophysics
|Titel der Veranstaltung||Göttingen Campus Research Visits - Institute of Astrophysics|
|Reihe||Göttingen Campus Research Visits|
|Veranstalter||Göttingen Campus Koordination|
|Referent/in||Dr Sebastian Schäfer|
|Beschreibung||These visits have been conceived with the goal of enriching the Postdoc experience in Göttingen, for the benefit of all Network members whatever their discipline, interest or career stage. This a great opportunity to have personal interactions with fellow researchers, exchange ideas, initiate collaborations or get an overview of research activities across the Göttingen Campus.
Our first visit is to the University’s Institute of Astrophysics, and will kindly be led by Dr Sebastian Schäfer.
You can expect an overview of: astrophysics, telescopes, spectroscopy, solar observation, how to find planets beyond our Solar System and instrumentation projects for the very Large Telescope/European Extremely Large Telescope.
In addition, this will be an opportunity to find out about possible interdisciplinary collaboration, research methods and instruments as follows: observations of the Sun are very closely related to studies of the Earth's atmosphere so there is overlap, eg: Fourier-Transform-Spectroscopy (also used in Biology and Chemistry), lots of fibre optics, laser physics and vacuum technology.
When: 09:00 on Tuesday 25 June
Where: Physics Building, Friedrich-Hund-Platz 1, Meeting point to be confirmed when you sign up
Other: the tour will last around an hour with coffee afterwards. If the weather is dry, it should be possible to visit the telescope and the tour will take a bit longer.
Access/Health & Safety: there are no access restrictions, all welcome
To book: this tour is limited to a maximum of 15 attendees. Please RSVP to Christin Siegert stating your name, institution/department and disciplinary background as soon as possible and by 21 June at the latest.
