Beschreibung In this talk, we will consider two examples of stochastic processes characterized by an underlying one-dimensional Brownian motion, and one additional stochastic mechanism which abruptly modifies its evolution. As a first example, the external drive is described by stochastic resetting: the particle position is randomly reset to some prescribed point with a constant rate in time. Specifically, we analyze how space-inhomogeneous resetting and topological constraints modify the statistics of the system. We then use our results to model the fluctuating motion of RNA polymerase during transcriptional pauses, allowing us to analytically predict relevant statistical properties which have been measured experimentally. As a second example, the particle is externally driven by a harmonic potential whose minima coincide with a time-dependent non-Markovian dichotomous stochastic process. The particle alternatively relaxes towards the two minima of the stochastic potential, leading to effective oscillatory behavior. We then apply our analytical findings to describe and fit the active spontaneous oscillations of the hair bundles in the ear of the bullfrog, for which experimental measurements are available. Finally, we predict quantitatively the stationary dissipated power, a quantity that cannot be accessed experimentally.
