PhD Student

About me:

I am a first year PhD student at the University of Göttingen. I work as part of the DFG-Project 'Anaphora vs Agreement: Investigation the Anaphor-Agreement Effect' (DFG SU 835/1 ZE 1040/3), with Gurujegan Murugesan (Leipzig), under the supervision of Hedde Zeijlstra (Göttingen) and Sandhya Sundaresan (Leipzig).

The central research focus of this project is the interaction between anaphors (reflexives and reciprocals) and verbal agreement, based on the observation (originally due to Rizzi 1990, but updated since then) that anaphors may not trigger normal, i.e. phi-covarying, verbal agreement (the Anaphor-Agreement Effect). The goal of the project is to investigate how robust the AAE really is as a crosslinguistic generalization, what its formal underpinnings are and what it may tell us about anaphora and phi-agreement in grammar.
