International Food Economics and Rural Development

Research in our division concentrates on economic aspects of rural development in low and middle-income countries, with a particular emphasis on the micro household level. We analyze issues of poverty and food insecurity and the underlying socioeconomic causes. Moreover, we evaluate the welfare and distributional impacts of agricultural policies and other changes in national and international framework conditions. Our methodological approach is mostly quantitative in nature. With our research, we want to contribute to the generation of knowledge that is useful for the promotion of sustainable rural development, including the economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
