The Centre for Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture and Forestry (CeTSAF) is a joint scientific establishment of the faculties of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry and Ecology Sciences at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.

It coordinates and organizes various interdisciplinary, international study programmes as well as cooperative research worldwide.

The German Alumni Forest Network – GAForN, a BMZ-DAAD funded initiative of the Center for Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture and Forestry - CeTSAF at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the Forest Science Department at the Technical University of Dresden is pleased to announce its third international Symposium cum Workshop to be held at Xishuangbanna, Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences CAS, Yunnan, China from 8 - 12 March 2010. The title of the Symposium this year is- "Academic Forestry Education: Developments and Needs"

In this Symposium we focus on academic forestry education, its role in forming experts in the multitude of fields relevant to forest management and to forest related research.

The Symposium is being prepared by the Centre for Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture and Forestry (CeTSAF), Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany and managed by the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences at Kunming, Yunnan, China.

Main themes of the Symposium are:

Das Tropenzentrum der Universität Göttingen organisiert zwei internationale Sommerschulen, die vom Deutschen Akademischen Austausch Dienst (DAAD) gefördert werden, für Absolventen deutscher Hochschulen aus aller Welt. Die je Summer School 25 Teilnehmer stammen aus 29 Ländern: Afghanistan, Ägypten, Albanien, Äthiopien, Benin, Bolivien, Brasilien, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Ghana, Guatemala, Indien, Indonesien, Iran, Kambodscha, Kenia, Malawi, Malaysia, Mexiko, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippinen, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Thailand, Tschad und Venezuela. Thematisch beschäftigt sich die Summer School des German Alumni Forestry Network (GAForN) vom 21.September bis 2. Oktober 2009 mit den vielfältigen Anforderungen an die Forstwirtschaft im Spannungsfeld zwischen profitorientierter Waldnutzung und Bewahrung des Ökosystems. Mit den ökonomischen und sozialen Werten der Biodiversität in den Tropen beschäftigt sich die zweite Sommerschule, die vom 27. September bis zum 5. Oktober 2009 stattfindet. Die Teilnehmer der Biodiversitäts‐ Sommerschule besuchen im Anschluss den Tropentag 2009 in Hamburg.
