The Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programme "Euroculture - Society, politics and culture in a global context" partly financed by the European Commission is a transdisciplinary, international and inter-university project, in which various disciplines, eight well-known European and four non-EU universities participate. Its aim is to prepare graduates from Europe and third-countries for professions and research areas in which knowledge of present-day Europe and European Union institutions are of relevance. The focus is on regional, national and supranational dimensions of the European democratic development. It pays special attention to the increasing mobility of its citizens, to migration and transcultural exchanges. Because of the multidisciplinary studies approach, the Euroculture programme stands out from many other European Regional Studies programmes. Ever since the establishment of the Programme in 1999, Euroculture was used as a concept to reflect in an interdisciplinary way on the many different expressions and manifestations of self-understandings of societies, social groups and individuals of, about, within and beyond Europe.
Its core questions amongst others are:
* How can the ongoing European unification process be understood in its cultural, political and sociological dynamics?
* How is Europe and how are cultural transformations perceived within Europe and from the outside?
* What is the impact of political and social processes on European culture(s) and culture(s) in Europe?
Through the exchange with our partner-universities, the Euroculture Programme offers the chance to gain experience with other languages, perspectives and cultural practices.
The Euroculture Programme brings together some 100 students each year who have to pass a selection procedure to be admitted. The programme is taught in English and is open to students who have successfully completed a university Bachelor or Master programme in related fields, such as European Studies, History, Theology, Linguistics, Literature, Philosophy, International Relations, Political Science, Law, Economics, Cultural studies, Anthropology, Psychology or Sociology.
