Visa and Insurance

Visa

We provide comprehensive assistance for participants in visa matters. However, we recommend that all participants inform themselves about visa regulations at the German Embassy in their country, well in advance. Please arrange an appointment at the Embassy early on, as the application process is known to take up to eight weeks. The process itself varies, depending on the participant's country of origin. As a consequence, it is difficult to provide a universally applicable guideline for the process. We are glad to assist our participants with their visa applications and draft letters that may support the visa application. Should you have any questions regarding visas, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Please visit the homepage of the German Foreign Office at www.auswaertiges-amt.de in order to check the visa regulations. You can find out here (https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/einreiseundaufenthalt/visabestimmungen-node/staatenlistevisumpflicht-node) whether you need to apply for a visa for Germany.
We are not able to take responsibility for arranging your visa or in case of rejection of your visa application.

Insurance

It is important to note that medical care in Germany can be expensive if you are not secured by insurance. Citizens of some countries are required to provide proof of insurance when applying for a visa. It is also possible that German customs will ask you for proof of insurance when you cross the border.

As a rule, travel health insurance valid for the entire Schengen area (with a minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR) is required for short-term stays (less than three months). Where possible, health insurance should be purchased in the applicant's home country, although it might also be taken care of by the host institutions in special cases.

For the duration of your stay in Germany, we urgently recommend you to purchase the following types of insurances:

  • a private health insurance for your stay abroad,
  • accident liability insurance and
  • private liability insurance.
