Application for summer semester 2020

Regular application period: October 01, 2019 - December 01, 2019
Admission/rejection letters will be sent by e-mail approximately in the middle/at the end of January 2020.
Additional application period (only for applicants from EU countries and for applicants with residence permit for Germany): from March 15, 2020 until March 31, 2020. International students who need a visa have to apply during the regular application period.
Admission/rejection letters will be sent by e-mail approximately in the first week of lectuers.
Applications have to be submitted via the online application portal. Paper documents are not required.

First day of lectures: April 14, 2020

Application for minor subjects in summer semester

You can apply for all minor subjects ("Modulpakete" 36 and 18 credits) also for summer semester. Excluded are the following minor courses: Intercultural German Studies 36 credits, Linguistics 36 and 18 credits as well as Scandinavian Languages 18 credits.


Important information for international applicants: You have to provide proof of sufficient German language skills if you wish to enrol in a Master programme at the Faculty of Humanities. A proof of German language proficiency has to be submitted by September 30th (application for winter semester) or by March 31st (application for summer semester) at the latest.

International applicants who don't speak German can apply only for master programs and minor subjects ("Modulpakete") which are taught in English:

  • Digital Humanities
  • East Asian Studies/Modern Sinology
  • English Philology
  • North American Studies
  • Anglophone Literature and Culture (minor subject)
  • Language in Focus: Linguistics and Medieval English Studies (minor subject)
  • Modern Indian Studies (minor subject)
  • Modern China (minor subject)

Regular application period: April 01, 2020. - June 01, 2020.
Admission/rejection letters will be sent by e-mail approximately in the middle/at the end of July 2020.
Additional application period only for applicants from EU countries and for applicants with resident permit for Germany: from September 15, 2020 until September 30, 2020. International students who need a visa are not allowed to apply in this period. Admission/rejection letters will be sent by e-mail approximately at the middle of October 2020
Applications have to be submitted via the online application portal. Paper documents are not required.
First day of lectures: October 26, 2020.

Application for winter semester 2020/21 - Intercultural German Studies

The programmes of the Department Intercultural German Studies have different deadlines. Please check the respective programme homepages (see link to Master of Arts programmes in the right column):

  • Applications have to be submitted via the online application portal.
    Paper documents are not required.
  • Application period for applicants from non-EU countries:
    March 01, 2020. - April 30, 2020
  • Application period for applicants from EU countries:
    May 01, 2020 - June 15, 2020

Intercultural German Studies/Germany-China Application deadline: July 15, 2020. Applications for this Master program have to be submitted directly to the Department for Intercultural German Studies (not via the online application portal)
