The Institute of Microbiology and Genetics is part of the Biology Faculty of Göttingen University and of the Göttingen Center of Molecular Biology (GZMB). Within the biology curriculum (Diplomstudiengang), the institute offers lecture courses, seminars, excursions and laboratory courses that enable students to choose microbiology, genetics, biochemistry or bioinformatics as a subject in the Vordiplom and/or the Diplom examination; in addition, the institute trains Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) candidates and students of the international Master/PhD program in Molecular Biology. At present, the institute houses nine departments and the Göttingen Genomics Laboratory as a joint research activity.
