Chair of Information Security and Compliance (‘Juniorprofessur’)

Welcome to the website of the Chair of Information Security and Compliance

The chair concentrates on aspects of strategic IT management with a particular focus on questions related to information security and information security management. The research focus lies on organizational capabilities that are necessary to secure information and IT. The course offerings focus on modern approaches for managing ‘the IT’ and issues related to information security. In particular, students will be enabled to understand, evaluate and design effective organizational structures and governance mechanisms that handle contemporary challenges of IT management. All courses impart highly relevant practical knowledge on well-established standards (such as ITIL, TOGAF, ISO 2700x) and up-to-date management approaches. However, all courses aim at giving you tools to conduct your own piece of research.

Congratulations go to Kristin Masuch and Maike Greve for winning the SIGSEC 2019 Doctoral Student Award for their paper “Does It Meet My Expectations? Compensation and Remorse as Data Breach Recovery Actions – An Experimental Scenario based Investigation”. In their paper, they examine the effectiveness of different recovery strategies (i.e., compensation and remorse) of firms that were affected by a data breach. Drawing on a data set of 507 responses in the context of runners and fitness tracker usage, they find that customer satisfaction can be most effectively retained if response strategies meet the customer’s response expectations.
