Press release: Funding Atlas 2021: University of Göttingen in the top twelve

No. 155 - 05.10.2021

Very good position and success for Life Sciences in German Research Foundation (DFG) Funding Atlas

The University of Göttingen is among the twelve best universities in Germany according to the German Research Foundation (DFG) Funding Atlas 2021. From 2017 to 2019, it managed to get funding totalling 233.8 million euros for research from the DFG. The Life Sciences are particularly successful, once again ranking fourth nationwide. The subjects with, comparatively, the highest DFG awards at Göttingen University include Agricultural Sciences, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine, which once again jointly take first place in Germany. Biology at Göttingen University ranks second in Germany. The DFG Funding Atlas is considered the most important ranking for higher education institutions in Germany.

Göttingen's Life Sciences are also proving to be extremely attractive to international researchers: in the list of researchers funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Göttingen University is the most frequently chosen university in Germany. In the list of universities most often chosen by those receiving ERC funding from across the whole of Europe for a research stay, Göttingen University is, once again, in sixth place.

"This means that the DFG Funding Atlas again shows that Göttingen is one of the most attractive research locations in Germany," says University President Professor Metin Tolan. The DFG Funding Atlas can be found here: www.dfg.de/foerderatlas.
