Intercultural Theology and History of the Oriental Churches

The department of Ecumenical Theology and Oriental Church and Mission History works intensively with partners in the Middle East and North East Africa.

Two outstanding representatives of these partner were recently guests of the faculty of Theology in Göttingen, for example for dialogues with Prof. Dr. Andreas Grünschloß, dean of the faculty, and Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Martin Tamcke, Director of Studies of the international Master programme Intercultural Theology.

On 8 May 2013, two reknown scholars visited the department: Dr. Belay Olam, Principal at the Mekane Yesus Seminary in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), and Dr. Baby Verghese, Professor of Syriac Studies, Liturgy and Sacramental Theology (Orthodox Theological Seminary and St. Ephrem Ecumenical Research Institute, Kottayam [Indien]) and Dean of Doctoral Studies (Federated Faculty for Research in Religion and Culture in Kerala).

Both of their home institutions are by contract members within the network of the international "Intercultural Theology" M.A. programme; the deepening of the mutual relations is jointly agreed. Both met doctorands as well as students of Intercultural Theology. With their visits, the scholars returned research stays of Prof. Tamcke at their universities.

The cooperation will be continued.
