The University of Göttingen (Georg-August-Universität) was founded in 1737 in the spirit of the Enlightenment. The movement had a decisive influence also upon the Faculty of Theology which, according to the custom of the time, was the first among the faculties in Göttingen. With part I (1507–1517), on 1 April 2012 the work on a complete edition of all of Karlstadt’s writings and letters in chronological order will begin. Thus, in cooperation with the Herzog August Bibliothek (HAB) in Wolfenbüttel, this edition shall fill a central gap of sources in Reformation research.
