Applicants should have completed successfully a master study with distinction with at least 300 ECTS credits in one of the subjects involved in the program. Applicants whose native language is not German or English must have sufficient knowledge of German or English language. Sufficient English and German language skills are proven by recognized test. Special emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary curiosity and experience.

Selection process
The selection of fifteen scholar and additionally five associate PhD students is done by a committee. This committee evaluates the applications and invites the shortlisted candidates to the presentation of their projects. The awarding of scholarships and associates is subject to the rules of the program "Materials Research wood". The equal opportunity commissioners of both universities are involved in the selection process.
