DNA sequence variation at putatively adaptive IDH enzyme gene locus in Quercus sp.

Former isozyme research has revealed putatively adaptive significance in some isozyme loci for forest tree species (Bergmann 1978, Bush & Smouse 1991, Repsilber et al. 2004, etc). IDH (Isocitrate dehydrogenase) is an enzyme that playa a crucial metabolic role in plants. The project aims to investigate the patterns of DNA sequence variation in selected forest tree species (e.g. Quercus sp., Fagus sp.) at IDH enzyme gene locus. Nucleotide diversity along an environmental gradient and association with potentially adaptive characters will be analysed.
