02.10.17: MA-Seminars "The Effects of Digitization and Artificial Intelligence on Human Decision-Making" in the winter semester 2017/18

In the winter semester 2017/18 our chair will offer the MA-seminar "The E ffects of Digitization and Arti cial Intelligence on Human Decision-Making". This seminar analyzes the effects of digital transformation and arti cial intelligence on human decision-making. Further, it discusses how these effects might alter economists' understanding and modelling of human-decision processes. Following a broad interdisciplinary approach and abstracting from standard game theory, seminar papers should explore likely future developments in human decision-making from various perspectives. Popular science publications written by (academic) experts introduce students to the basic concepts and ideas in the respective strands of literature. Students are expected to develop their own research question expanding the introductory literature to current journal articles. However, research questions should all relate to aspects of digital transformation and decision-making. Given the overall exploratory approach as well as the variety and interdisciplinarity of topics, students are encouraged to analyze the bigger picture and hypothesize about likely developments in human decision-making.

To apply for the seminars, interested students should send an E-Mail to lukas.meub[at]wiwi.uni-goettingen.de as of now. Places will be awarded by the "first come, first served" principle.

15.06.17: Book "Sustaining Interdisciplinary Collaboration" published

Both society and the academic community face new problems and challenges like the controversy surrounding data protection or online music sharing. These and other problems are best addressed by more than one scientific discipline. Interdisciplinary research is often viewed as fruitful for all participants, regardless of the different scientific perspectives involved and the obstacles which these differences can pose to an interdisciplinary research collaboration. The book "Sustaining Interdisciplinary Collaboration" by Regina Bendix, Killian Bizer and Dorothy Noyes is the result of a long-lasting, interdisciplinary research collaboration. It describes the process of and efforts to unifying different academic disciplines, the problem this process involves and recommendations for successful interdisciplinary work in the context of modern academic research.
