Development of a weather-resistant and fire-resistant wood-based fibreboard as a carrier material for a concrete wear layer and production of a wood fibre concrete composite material for outdoor use

The aim of the project is the development of a weather-stable and fire-resistant wood-based fibreboard as a carrier material for a concrete wear layer and production of a wood fiber concrete composite material for outdoor use. The process for producing the carrier material is based on impregnating fibreboards, such as medium-density or high-density fiberboard (MDF, HDF), with a condensation resin (melamine, phenolic resin, etc.) and thermally curing in a press. In this subproject, the appropriate condensation resin and flame retardant formulations and the treatment processes for impregnation and curing of the fibreboards are developed on a laboratory and pilot plant scale. In addition, the concrete wear layer is weather-resistant and the optimum bonding to the carrier plate is determined. The mechanical properties and the fire safety of both the carrier plate and the finished composite material are determined by various standard methods and optimized based on the results obtained.
