From June 23-24th 2016, in celebration of the 50th birthday of Prof. Stephan Klasen, the University of Goettingen will host the Goettinger Schule Development Economics Conference.
The conference will bring together more than 150 participants from across the globe, with around 60 presentations in the field of development economics.
The participants also include many former doctoral students of Prof. Klasen, as well as his own doctoral supervisor, Prof. Amartya Sen, who will deliver the keynote lecture.
Prof. Klasen holds the Senior Chair of Development Economics, is the director of the Ibero-America Institute for Economic Research, coordinator of the Courant Research Center "Poverty, equity, and gorwth in developing and transition countries", and co-chairs the German Research Foundation's Research and Training Group, Globalization and Development (RTG1723).
Prof. Klasen came to Goettingen in the fall of 2003, and within a short time period, created an academic program which now holds the reputation as being one of Germany's top university research centers in the field of development economics. His work bridges academics with policy, and his Chair is engaged in numerous projects and consultancies with research and policy partners across the world, from Indonesia to Bolivia, and Washington, DC.
At the University, he lectures at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels - on courses giving both broad perspectives on poverty and development, as well as more advanced and technical insights. He also directly supervises BA and MA students' theses, and has supervised over 40 doctoral students since coming to Goettingen.
