Home advantage? How consumers misjudge the environmental impact of imported food

Peppers from Spain or from Germany? When consumers assess the environmental impact of food, their decision largely depends on its origin. This is shown by a new survey by researchers at the University of Göttingen. According to the survey, domestic products in supermarkets are perceived as particularly environmentally friendly. Sudden complexity just 65 million years ago

Land plants – such as mosses, ferns and trees – are some of the most structurally complex photosynthesizing organisms on Earth. But their evolutionary story is deeply tied to their ancestors: simpler green algae that lived hundreds of millions of years ago. Among these algae, a group related to land plants that can still be found today – the Coleochaetophyceae – stands out. New degree programmes and more international students

Göttingen University announces student numbers - including an increase in the proportion of international students - as well as three new degree programmes

At least 5,000 students have enrolled for the 2025/26 winter semester at Göttingen University, including the University Medical Centre Göttingen (UMG). Of these, 3,600 are enrolled in their first semester at a German university. The total number of first-time enrolments has remained roughly the same as last year but the proportion of international students has risen again. The total number of students is currently around 27,700. more…

Preparing for Mars Samples on Earth

For more than four years now, the NASA rover Perseverance has been collecting rock, soil, and atmospheric samples on Mars. A new study has now suggested how to proceed with the samples from a scientific perspective on Earth.
