Excellent academic achievements and dedication

Margherita Cusmano, a PhD student in social sciences from Italy has received this year's German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) award for outstanding international students. In her thesis at Göttingen University and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity, Cusmano explores how migrants in Germany perceive and judge economic inequality. The panel commended her commitment to refugees, as well as to international students and researchers. more…


Sedimentary rocks reveal ocean floor cooling

Rocks store information from long ago. For instance, their composition can reveal the environmental conditions during their formation. This makes them extremely important in climate research. More milk, less methane in mixed pastures?

Allowing dairy cows to graze on fresh grass in open pastures for a significant proportion of the year seems more natural and sustainable. And there are proven advantages for the environment: stable grasslands promote biodiversity, protect the soil, and support carbon storage. However, farms face challenges as they are heavily dependent on the weather and the time of the year. Good results for the University of Göttingen. In the current university ranking of the UK’s Times Higher Education (THE), Göttingen was able to maintain its position of 10th place in Germany.
