Dear students,

This glossary is intended to help you as a new student at the Faculty of Humanities to orientate yourself in your studies and to obtain information about the accessibility of the buildings of the Faculty of Humanities at first glance.
This compilation does not claim to be complete or legally binding, but serves as an initial orientation.

A

Altphilologisches Seminar / Seminar for Classical Philology

This seminar is located in the brick building at the back of the KWZ in Humboldtallee 19.
Information on accessibility: The Department of Classical Philology can be reached via the side entrance opposite the Office of the Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Humanities and is located on the ground floor. Door openers are available everywhere. To get to the seminar, you have to walk down the long corridor and walk through two glass doors. It is located in the last corridor.

AP 26

Old lecture hall at Goßlerstraße 10.
Information on accessibility: Barrier-free access via the ZESS main entrance, lift to the first floor, then left. The entrance is next to the disabled toilet.

Auditorium

The auditorium, or „audi“ for short, has the address Weender Landstraße 2 and houses a large lecture hall as well as the university’s art collection and exhibition rooms.
Notes on accessibility: The entrance is behind the building. The bell and intercom must be pressed for someone to come and open the door. A lift is available and goes up to the art exhibition. A disabled toilet is also available.

AV Room

The AV room belongs to the Department of Comparative Literature and is located at Humboldtallee 32.
Information on accessibility: This room is located on the 2nd floor. Unfortunately, there is no lift available.

E

ERZ (Waldweg)

The building complex at Waldweg 26 offers, among other things, seminar rooms, a library, an assembly hall and lecture halls. The seminar rooms are sometimes also signposted as ERZ (formerly “Erziehungswissenschaften”)
Notes on accessibility: Ground-level entrance is at the back of the building. Access is via the car park. Please follow the signs. There are no door openers inside the building, a narrow lift is available in the high-rise building.

All wings and annexes beyond the „teachers‘ room“ are only accessible to a limited extent for people in wheelchairs. The library is also not completely usable for these groups of people. The library counter and the Central Facility for Teacher Education can be reached via a side entrance. Access is also via the car park at the rear side of the building, then keep straight on, follow the path towards the canteen, but then turn left in front on the canteen.

The University Didactics, the CEMIS, the Seminar for Tibetology and Indology, the Mensa Italia as well as the Didactics of Biology are not barrier-free accessible. There are only multi-level stairs in all areas.

ERZ 0.211

Lecture hall/seminar room in Waldweg 26, formerly ERZ 181.
Information on accessibility: see the description under ERZ from the library. To get to the lecture hall, turn right after going through the door. There are then five steps to climb. There is a handrail.

ERZ 0.120/HI/HIII

Designations for various lecture halls in Waldweg 26.
Notes on accessibility: For access to ERZ 0.120, see the description of the ERZ. ERZ H I and H III are not accessible for students in wheelchairs as there are only stairs.

H

HDW

The abbreviation refers to Heinrich-Düker-Weg 5, where seminar and workshop rooms are located.
Notes on accessibility: The rear entrance to building 5a is accessible with a ramp, a lift is available. The key for the separate entrance must be obtained from the central room administration and can be borrowed for an entire semester. The lift provides access to all floors in 5a. In building 5 (at the rear end of the inner courtyard), only the top floor is accessible by lift. All other rooms are not accessible for people who need a lift.

Information on the rooms can be found under this link (right column).
Notes on accessibility: The Ancient History Department is not barrier-free. Access is only possible via stairs.

K

KWZ: Kulturwissenschaftliches Zentrum (Centre for Cultural Studies)

The KWZ is located at Heinrich-Düker-Weg 14 and can best be reached from Goßlerstraße via the path that runs alongside the car park. If the room number is preceded by “KWZ”, the events take place in this building. Room plans can be downloaded as a PDF in the right-hand column of this homepage.
Notes on accessibility: All floors are accessible via the lift. However, the lift may be difficult to use for people with a wider power wheelchair as it is rather narrow. There are disabled toilets on each level. The toilet on the ground floor is located on the right-hand side of the remote level in the foyer. Access is via the lift and is labelled accordingly in the lift. However, seminar rooms 3.601 and 3.701 are only accessible via narrow stairs.

L

LSG: Lern- und Studiengebäude (Learning and Study Building)

The LSG is located at Platz der Göttinger Sieben 3a. No courses take place in the LSG, it houses numerous rooms that can be booked by students for learning. There are a total of 650 group and individual workstations, some of which are equipped with internet and whiteboards. Further information, e.g. on the book procedure can be found on the following website.

M

MZG: Mehrzweckgebäude (auch Blauer Turm genannt)

The multi-purpose building (MZG, also called „Blue Tower“) at Platz der Göttinger Sieben 5 adjoins the ZHG and includes, among other things, many seminar rooms. The rooms belonging to it are generally abbreviated as MZG E.XXX. The E refers to the floor on which the room is located. XXX are placeholders for the respective room number. MZG 6.111 therefore means that room 111 is located on the 6th floor of the MZG.
Notes on accessibility: All floors are accessible via lifts, there is a wider lift. In total, there are several lifts to choose from. There are no door openers at the fire doors. There is a disabled toilet only on the ground floor of the Central Lecture Hall Building.

O

Oeconomicum (also called Socio-Oeconomicum)

The Oeconomicum (abbreviated Oec) is located at Platz der Göttinger Sieben 3, opposite the Central Lecture Hall Building (ZHG). It houses the BBWISO, seminar rooms and all professorships as well as the examination offices of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences. Rooms in this building complex are abbreviated as OEC E.XXX.
Notes on accessibility: Level access in possible, a lift is available in the building. There is a door opener only for the outer door, unfortunately there are no door openers for the fire doors inside the building.

P

PH12 (Classical Archaeology)

Room PH 12, a lecture hall, is located on the ground floor of the Department of Classical Archaeology, Nikolausberger Weg 15 (room number 0.212).
Notes on accessibility: A lift is available, but a person with key authority is required to gain access. There are two steps in front of the seminar room.

PH13 (Art History)

Room PH 13 is located in the building of the Department of Art History at Nikolausberger Weg 15. It has the room number 1.124, i.e. it is on the first floor.
Notes on accessibility: A lift is available, but a person with key authority is required to gain access. There are two steps in front of the seminar room.

PH 20

Lecture hall of the Faculty of Humanities, Humboldtallee 19/21, wing 1-4, room number 1.112.
Information on accessibility: This room can be reached via the side entrance opposite the Dean of Studies Office of the Faculty of Humanities. Door openers are available throughout. To get to the lift, go straight through two glass doors. It is then on the left-hand side. On the 1st floor, you have to turn right and go through the hallway of the Romance Studies Department, then right again through the glass door.

PH 133 (Philosophy)

Room PH 133 is located in the Philosophy Department, Humboldtallee 19 (entrance A).
Notes on accessibility: This room can be reached via the side entrance opposite the Dean of Studies Office of the Faculty of Philosophy. Door openers are available throughout. The room is located on the right before the stairs.

Philosophy Seminar

This seminar is located in the brick building at the back of the KWZ in Humboldtallee 19. The Romance Department and the Department of Slavic Philology are also located in this building.
Notes on accessibility: This seminar can be reached via the side entrance opposite the Dean of Studies Office of the Faculty of Humanities. Door openers are available throughout. The Philosophy Department is on the ground floor.

R

R. 0.376, Large Exercise Room „Classical Philology”

The large practice room "R. 0.376" is located in Humboldtallee 19.
Information on accessibility: R. 0.376 can be reached via the side entrance opposite the Dean of Studies Office of the Faculty of Humanities. Door openers are available everywhere. Keep straight ahead and go through all corridors and glass doors until you reach the end of the corridor, then you are directly in front of the room.

Romance Studies Department

This seminar is located in Humboldtallee 19.
Information on accessibility: The Romance Studies Department is accessible via the lift. The lift can also be reached via the side entrance opposite the Dean's Office of the Humanities Faculty, straight ahead through two glass doors, then it is on the left-hand side. The 1st and 3rd floors are freely accessible. For the 2nd floor, a key is required, as well as an activation of the student ID card, as the way only leads through the otherwise locked library. The exercise rooms 2.121, 2.123 and 2.117 are located on the 2nd floor. The lecturers' offices and seminar rooms of Romance Studies are completely accessible on the 1st and 3rd floor. You can apply for activation of your student ID card from the Faculty Business Manager of the Faculty of Humanities, Jacqueline Schubert.

S

SDP: Seminar für Deutsche Philologie (Seminar for German Philology)

The Seminar für Deutsche Philologie is located at Käthe-Hamburger-Weg 3 and houses all rooms marked SDP E.XXX. It is also listed under Jakob-Grimm-Haus at UniVZ. The central, large entrance to the building complex is the main entrance to the SDP.
Notes on accessibility: A ramp leads from the main entrance of the SDP to the basement, where the lift is located. A key is available from the library supervisor on level 0. You can reach them by telephone on 0551-39 7519. There is a disabled toilet in the basement.

SEP: Seminar für Englische Philologie (English Department)

The SEP is located at Käthe-Hamburger-Weg 3. The entrance is to the right of the entrance to the SDP. A room directory (PDF) is available at the following link.
Notes on accessibility: A ramp leads from the main entrance of the SEP to the basement, where the lift is. A key is available from the library supervisor of the SEP seminar library. You can reach them at the following number: 0551-39-7498.

Skandinavisches Seminar (Scandinavian Seminar)

The Scandinavian Seminar is located on the left side of the large entrance to the SDP in Käthe-Hamburger-Weg 3. The seminar rooms are located in Käthe-Hamburger-Weg 3 on the 2nd floor. The entrance is to the left of the large entrance to the SDP.
Notes on accessibility: Access is possible via the Linguistics Department and the main entrance to the German Philology Department. You can find more details in the corresponding descriptions.

Seminar für Slavische Philologie (Seminar for Slavic Philology)

This seminar is also located at Humboldtallee 19.
Notes on accessibility: The Slavic Philology Department is accessible via the lift. The lift is also accessible via the side entrance opposite the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Humanities, straight ahead through two glass doors, then it is on the left-hand side. The 1st and 3rd floors are freely accessible. For the 2nd floor, a key is required, as well as an activation of the student ID card, as the way only leads through the otherwise locked library. On the 2nd floor there are the exercise rooms 2.121, 2.123 and 2.117, as well as some Slavic Studies offices. You can apply for a student ID card to be unlocked from the Faculty Business Manager of the Faculty of Humanities, Jacqueline Schubert. Slavic Studies is accessible with restrictions. Rooms 3.222, 3.223, 3.216, 3.227 are generally not accessible for people in wheelchairs, as there are several steps to climb.

SLZ: (ZESS)

The abbreviation stands for „Sprachlehrzentrum“ (Language Teaching Centre), today also called ZESS (Zentrale Einrichtung für Sprachen und Schlüsselqualifikationen – Central Institution for Languages and Key Qualifications) and is located at Goßlerstraße 10. The teaching rooms there are called SLXX.
Notes on accessibility: A ramp and a lift are available. The disabled-accessible toilet is on the 1st floor. The rooms are very differently equipped. The tables may not be accessible from underneath. Specific technical questions regarding language courses and computers can be clarified directly with those responsible at the ZESS. The media library is accessible. The large computer pool is only accessible via two steps, but there are also computers on the level with the books.

Sprachwissenschaftliches Seminar (Linguistics Department)

The Linguistics Department can be reached via the entrance to the left of the SDP in Käthe-Hamburger-Weg 3.
Information on accessibility: There are two steps in front of the entrance. There is a temporary ramp made of metal that someone has to put down. There is no disabled toilet and there are no door openers inside or outside. Access is also possible via the SDP's lift. Regarding the ramp, you can contact Ms Riepe by email: uhsw@gwdg.de.

T

Theologicum

The Theologicum (short Theo) is located at Platz der Göttinger Sieben 2, opposite the SUB. Abbreviations with TO belong to this building (e.g. TO1: lecture hall in the Theologicum). A short online tour of the Theologicum is available here.
Information on accessibility: Level access is possible. There is a disabled toilet on the ground floor. There is also a lift. Door openers are not available.

V

VG: Verfügungsgebäude (Multi-purpose building)

The VG is located on campus between the SUB and the Juridicum. Rooms with the designation VG.XXX are located here. As is generally the case in any large building, the first number stands for the floor, the following numbers for the room. VG 3.106 therefore means that a course takes place in room 106 on the third floor. The address is Platz der Göttinger Sieben 7.
Notes on accessibility: Access is via a ramp. A door opener for the outside door, as well as two lifts are available. There are no door openers for fire doors inside the building.

Z

ZHG: Zentrales Hörsaalgebäude (Central Lecture Hall Building)

The ZHG is located at Platz der Göttinger Sieben 5. The room numbers stand for the respective lecture hall and are numbered consecutively, starting at the entrance to the Blue Tower. The lecture halls are labelled according to the scheme ZHGXX. For example, the first lecture hall has the number "001" and is abbreviated ZHG001. If the lecture hall is on the second level of the ZHG, there is a 1 at the beginning of the number, for example ZHG101.
Notes on accessibility: Accessible entrances exist at the entrance to the Blue Tower near the car park and at the small courtyard to the right of the entrance to the Central Dining Hall. The lecture halls in the upper area can be reached via the lifts in the Blue Tower. A disabled toilet is located on the ground floor.
